Apply to BAA
BAA will consider applicants regardless of undergraduate major; however, it is expected that students will have a background in evolution, ecology, behavior, or morphology. Such a background might be obtained through training in biology, geology, physical anthropology, or zoology.
It must be emphasized that admission to the program is highly competitive, and only the most qualified candidates are accepted. In general, students who are accepted are provided with financial assistance in the form of graduate fellowships and research and teaching assistantships. These funds are usually available for up to five years, as long as a student is making satisfactory progress toward a degree. Students are also encouraged to apply for national fellowships, such as the National Science Foundation pre-doctoral fellowship.
Students must meet all requirements for admission to the Graduate School at Duke University. These requirements include the submission of an application, transcript, statement of interest, three letters of recommendation, GRE scores, and application fee. The department does not require any advanced GRE exam. Applicants are considered without regard to race, religion, sex, age, handicap, national origin, or financial status. In cases of demonstrated financial need, the department will waive the application fee. Please contact the DGS for information regarding the waiver.
