Anatomical Instruction
A wide variety of facilities for the study of functional, comparative, and developmental anatomy are available. These include: a laboratory for experimental studies of functional morphology using electromyography, strain gage, stress, bite force, and jaw tracking analysis; a laboratory for the study of vertebrate movement equipped with force plates, accelerometers, and video and computer systems for kinematic analysis; radiographic and image analysis equipment for structural analysis of the vertebrate skeleton; a laboratory for hormonal analysis and SEM analysis of dental tissues. In addition, the Duke University Comparative Embryology collection contains a large number of mammalian and other vertebrate embryos, and the Duke University Morphometrics laboratory provides access to equipment and facilities for computer-assisted measurement and analysis of morphological variation.
